Text

"The principle of woman suffrage crystallized in an organic law remoulds society and rebuilds the fabric of our political government, on a theory never before known in all the annals of human family. It will sweep out of existence the old common law of England, which we brought with us to this country. Under it the husband and wife were one; he was to go forth from the house to perform his public duties, to provide necessaries, and to be the spokesman in and to the public for his family; while the wife and mother was to remain at home, to govern it in love, so that in undisturbed peace she might follow her heroic calling, and rear and educate their children in the ways of virtue and honesty.
