Celluloid button with a picture of the Liberty Bell at the center and the words "Liberty Justice 1776-1915." Hanging from the pin are a gold ribbon with the slogan "Votes for Women" printed in black and a small American flag.
This piece was created during the Pennsylvania Liberty Bell Campaign to pass a state suffrage referendum in 1915. Suffragists forged a replica of the Liberty Bell, known as the Justice Bell. The Justice Bell toured Pennsylvania with the clapper chained to its side. The clapper would not ring until women won the vote.

Gold silk ribbon with rolled hem along the top edge and fringe along the bottom edge and black printed text.
The twenty-sixth New York Woman Suffrage Association's annual convention was held in Ithaca, New York, from November 12-14, 1894. Earlier in 1894, New York State held its Constitutional Convention to revise the State constitution, which included a proposed amendment aimed at striking the word "male," and granting the right to vote. The suffragists were denied representation, and female delegates were not allowed.
The NYWSA, with the help of Susan B. Anthony, and the Women's Christian Temperance Union, collected roughly 600,000 signatures in favor of giving women the vote, but the petitions failed to persuade the delegates.

Description
An account of the resource
The Lewis collection includes approximately 60 buttons, pins, and badges issued in the United States or in England. Buttons were a popular way to demonstrate support or opposition for the woman’s suffrage movement, raise money, and spark conversation about the campaign. Supporters wore their buttons to proclaim popular and recognizable slogans like “Votes for Women” or “Suffrage First.” Buttons and badges displayed the names of organizations and the official colors, including gold and black, yellow and blue, purple, white and green, or some other variation to highlight a particular campaign.
The collection also includes several anti-suffrage buttons issued by groups such as the Massachusetts Association Opposed to the Further Extension of Suffrage to Women, and a small group of satirical buttons created by the American Tobacco Company.
