Description
An account of the resource
The main headline on the front page is "Suffrage Battle is Won! Tennessee Ratifies Today/ 25 Million Women Are Given Ballot" The paper features photographs of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, and Susan B. Anthony.
The primary article discusses Tennessee's vote for the woman suffrage amendment by a tally of 50 to 46 after three ballots had been taken. The first two ballots resulted in a tie of 48 to 48. The original tally on the third ballot was 49 to 47 but Speaker Walker changed his vote from "no to aye" which would allow him to bring up a motion to reconsider the resolution.
Additional sections discuss the appeal by the National Woman's Party to Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby to issue a proclamation declaring the ratification so that women could participate in August primaries being held in many states.
Articles on the front page include:
"Suffrage Fight Started in 1848; Illinois First State to Ratify"
"Epitome of Women's Battle for Suffrage" with timeline of major events from 1848 to 1920
"Tennessee's Action Puts State Fight in Turmoil/Await Proclamation by Colby; Will Affect the Primaries" discusses the impact women voters may have on the upcoming elections in Illinois.

An account of the resource

The Lewis collection includes a diverse assortment of materials that document the expanding role and status of women from the early nineteenth century until after women won the right to vote in 1920. Correspondence, conference programs, speeches, position papers, newsletters, sheet music, congressional reports, stock certificates, printed materials, and more present a view of the individuals and organizations that fought for and against political, economic, and social rights for women.

The records primarily document the American suffrage movement; but also include material on the suffrage movement in England and several other European countries, as well as a wide range of issues including education, organized labor, social welfare, temperance, voter education, slavery, wartime experiences, and the women’s club movement.

My dear Mrs. Nickuire-
The candidates of the National Progressive Party are pledged to work for equal suffrage. This means that during the coming campaign they will be expected to emphasize it in their speeches. Will you not, as president of a suffrage society, ask the individuals of your society to co-operate with us in reporting any candidate running on the Progressive ticket who refuses to endorse the suffrage plank? We feel this to be for the advantage of all believing in suffrage, and we hope you will aid us by your hearty sympathy and support.
Very sincerely,
Alice Carpenter Member New York State Committee

An account of the resource
The collection of more than 250 postcards and stamps demonstrates the popularity of this medium and the types of arguments both for and against suffrage. The cards illustrate the perceived threat to traditional gender roles, the growing violence of the suffrage movement primarily in England, and the way in which women were mobilizing to challenge conventional political and social responsibilities. The collection also includes a selection of printed photographic postcards distributed after the March 3, 1913 parade in Washington, D.C., as well as a series of photo cards published by the Women’s Social and Political Union and the Women’s Freedom League to highlight their officers.

Description
An account of the resource
Campaign literature that uses a popular slogan, "the new look" as a way to encourage women to vote. The pamphlet contains photographs and facts about the conditions for families before and after women had the right to vote, outlines the work still to be done to improve conditions and provides information on how women can do their part by voting in elections and educating their husbands on who to vote for, and using the local political action committee as a resource.
The Congress of Industrial Organizations was founded in 1928 as a federation of unions that organized workers in industrial unions in the United States and Canada. The CIO merged with the American Federation of Labor to form the AFL-CIO in 1955. The CIO PAC was established in 1942.
