The Women's Freedom League was founded in 1907 in the United Kingdom by a group of members of the Women's Social and Political Union, including Teresa Billington Greig, Charlotte Despard, and Edith How-Martyn, to campaign for women's suffrage. The League opposed the use of violence and suspended their activities during World War I. They resumed lobbying in 1916. At the time of publication, Charlotte Despard was serving as president.</text>
