Description
An account of the resource
The collection of more than 250 postcards and stamps demonstrates the popularity of this medium and the types of arguments both for and against suffrage. The cards illustrate the perceived threat to traditional gender roles, the growing violence of the suffrage movement primarily in England, and the way in which women were mobilizing to challenge conventional political and social responsibilities. The collection also includes a selection of printed photographic postcards distributed after the March 3, 1913 parade in Washington, D.C., as well as a series of photo cards published by the Women’s Social and Political Union and the Women’s Freedom League to highlight their officers.

If there is nothing to be gained by women from the ballot--and of that there is no doubt in any well-balanced mind--what is the country to gain that will balance the disadvantages and burdens, its imposition would imply? Either every woman of intelligence and probity would have to vote in rain or shine, sick or well, in order to counteract the vote of the other women, or the country would more than lose by their suffrage.
Let us retain confidence in the men who make our laws, Mr. Editor, and who vote not only for their own interests but for ours, as they are identical.

Description
An account of the resource
Letter to the editor of the Argus, written by Mrs. W. Winslow Crannell, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Women's Anti-Suffrage Association of the Third Judicial District of the State of New York. Crannell is responding to an article in which the author makes the asserts that the fact that a greater number of the women registered to vote in Utah in 1895 than the number of men who actually voted refutes the idea that women would not vote if given the opportunity.
Crannell argues that Utah cannot be compared to Eastern states because of the different values that exist, particularly in the Mormon religion. She also provides statistics from states including Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Chicago, that support the notion that women do not vote.
The letter was reprinted by the Women's Anti-Suffrage Association of the Third Judicial District of the State of New York.

"The following pages have been the work of the leisure hours of the past six weeks. They were prepared at the request of relatives and friends. The materials are drawn from memory, and perhaps are not the best selections from a large stock of the same kind. As I am near the close of my eightieth year, I have paid little attention to mere style. A copyright will be secured, and a few numbers printed for private circulation, but there will be none for sale."

Buttons and Ribbons
Description
An account of the resource
The Lewis collection includes approximately 60 buttons, pins, and badges issued in the United States or in England. The collection also includes several anti-suffrage buttons issued by groups such as the Massachusetts Association Opposed to the Further Extension of Suffrage to Women, and a small group of satirical buttons created by the American Tobacco Company.
