<p style="text-align:left;">The Lewis collection includes a diverse assortment of materials that document the expanding role and status of women from the early nineteenth century until after women won the right to vote in 1920. Isn't it evident that when mothers are represented in government and their opinions and interests are consulted, babies have a better chance? Isn't [it] proved that women with the ballot do not neglect their home and babies?
Giving the ballot to women not only helps them to do their own work more effectively, but actually increases the wealth of the nation.

Postcards and Stamps
Description
An account of the resource
The collection of more than 250 postcards and stamps demonstrates the popularity of this medium and the types of arguments both for and against suffrage. The cards illustrate the perceived threat to traditional gender roles, the growing violence of the suffrage movement primarily in England, and the way in which women were mobilizing to challenge conventional political and social responsibilities. The collection also includes a selection of printed photographic postcards distributed after the March 3, 1913 parade in Washington, D.C., as well as a series of photo cards published by the Women’s Social and Political Union and the Women’s Freedom League to highlight their officers.

Dear Mildred-Well, how goes it? Are you well, going to school and happy? This is surely a nice day, trying to make up for some of the bad weather, I guess. Have you any new clothes this spring? Expect to wear my new shirt tomorrow for the first time. Lots of love, [obstructed name]
