The card depicts a suffragist, shackled and in a prison cell, reaching out to John Bull, a personification of England. The poem along the bottom is an excerpt from &quot;The Princess,&quot; by Alfred Lord Tennyson.<br />

On the verso, the card is addressed to Mrs. Lavor 4 Cambridge Rd Walton on Thames Surrey, and postmarked April 27, 1909.
