Description
An account of the resource
Caroline Bartlett Crane, journalist, educator, and Unitarian minister, argues and provides examples of ways in which business interests are given legal and political preference over the interests of the home.
The verso also contains a list of recommended reading for mothers and housekeepers.
The National American Woman Suffrage Association published a series of circulars written by well-known activists on the social, political, and economic reasons why women should be granted the right to vote. The circulars, along with novelties such as buttons, stationery, playing cards and other materials to advertise the suffrage movement, were included in a mail-order "Catalog of Suffrage Literature and Supplies" produced by the NAWSA Literature Committee.

"Let the high endeavor of every good woman be to do her full duty to God, to society, to her family and to the commonwealth, in the great sphere in which God has placed her. Woman must do her work for her country as woman and not as a counterfeit man. We do not need her at the polls, but those who do go to the polls need a good mother's training and good home influence."

Description
An account of the resource

The Lewis collection includes a diverse assortment of materials that document the expanding role and status of women from the early nineteenth century until after women won the right to vote in 1920. Correspondence, conference programs, speeches, position papers, newsletters, sheet music, congressional reports, stock certificates, printed materials, and more present a view of the individuals and organizations that fought for and against political, economic, and social rights for women.

The records primarily document the American suffrage movement; but also include material on the suffrage movement in England and several other European countries, as well as a wide range of issues including education, organized labor, social welfare, temperance, voter education, slavery, wartime experiences, and the women’s club movement.
