Letter from Carrie Chapman Catt to "Friend of Human Justice." June 1933.
Description
An account of the resource
In 1933, Carrie Chapman Catt began protesting against the Nazi persecution of Jews. This letter, sent in June, and signed by Catt with a personal note, encouraged readers to gather signatures on an official protest statement. In August 1933, Catt announced the establishment of the Protest Committee of Non-Jewish Women Against the Persecution of Jews in Germany. Over 9,000 women had signed the committee’s official protest statement, which was disseminated internationally and to the League of Nations. In recognition of her efforts, Eleanor Roosevelt presented Catt with the American Hebrew Medal in November of the same year.

The collection contains just under 200 volumes, many of them rare, by English and American authors from the 19th to the mid-20th centuries. Authors include Jane Addams, Susan B. Anthony, Carrie Chapman Catt, Abigail Scott Dunaway, Amelia Earhart, Millicent Garrett Fawcett, Emmeline Pankhurst, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Frances Willard, Victoria Woodhull, and many more influential reformers of the time. Description
An account of the resource
The collection of more than 250 postcards and stamps demonstrates the popularity of this medium and the types of arguments both for and against suffrage. The cards illustrate the perceived threat to traditional gender roles, the growing violence of the suffrage movement primarily in England, and the way in which women were mobilizing to challenge conventional political and social responsibilities. The collection also includes a selection of printed photographic postcards distributed after the March 3, 1913 parade in Washington, D.C., as well as a series of photo cards published by the Women’s Social and Political Union and the Women’s Freedom League to highlight their officers.

Description
An account of the resource
Anti-suffrage commentary focused on The Woman's Bible and the anti-Christian beliefs of suffragists. The author pulls direct quotes from The Woman's Bible.
From the Library of Congress:
In 1895, Elizabeth Cady Stanton published the first edition of "The Woman's Bible," an attempt to amplify, explain, and redefine scriptural references pertaining to women in the basis that these were often used as a rationale to deny women particular rights and privileges. The work was undertaken by a committee and involved searching the both Old and New Testaments for references to women, cutting them out, and then pasting them on blank pages in a book. Then commentaries were added beneath the quotations.
In 1898, "The Woman's Bible" was reprinted, including the addition of a 20-page pamphlet entitled, "Bible and Church Degrade Woman," which contained three essays by Stanton that further explained her position on women in religion. This is one of those essays.

Women--Suffrage--New York
Description
An account of the resource
Flier published by the Empire State Campaign Committee in advance of the 1915 election in New York contains statistics and arguments about women's suffrage, including the number of women who want the right to vote, the number of women already able to vote in western states, the political officials in favor of women's suffrage, and the types of women who want to vote (teachers, wage-earning women, housekeepers, etc.).
The Empire State Campaign Committee was a coalition of organizations, including the Women's Suffrage Party, the Women's Suffrage Association, the Women's Political Union and other similar organizations, headed by Carrie Chapman Catt. It was created to bring New York women together in support of the state woman suffrage amendment. The referendum was defeated in 1915 but passed two years later in November 1917.

An account of the resource
Flier published by the Empire State Campaign Committee in advance of the 1915 election in New York contains a cartoon by Art Young depicting a "Suffragist" standing at a chalkboard quizzing an "Anti-Suffragist." The question written on the blackboard is "How can this be a 'government of the people and by the people' if-only 1/2 of the people vote?"
The Empire State Campaign Committee was a coalition of organizations, including the Women's Suffrage Party, the Women's Suffrage Association, the Women's Political Union and other similar organizations, headed by Carrie Chapman Catt.
